Employment Agreements - who understands them?
Only 0.6% of people read their employment agreements in full! That is 6 people in a thousand. This is according to a study conducted by protecting.co.uk - and only another 0.1% had read it in part. Why am I not surprised? The answer is simple - they are just too complicated.
Our legal compliance requirements and the challenges companies have protecting themselves if their agreements are not correctly worded, mean that all legally-drafted agreements require someone with that level of understanding to interpret them. So most people don't read them and, as they won't pay the money to a specialist, they simply don't understand their agreements.
I make sure my agreements have all key variables set out on a separate schedule - but only one of my clients has ever requested a contract their staff could read and understand. I would love to help others do this.
